Each day I will list what small steps I did that day to improve our finances. You may like to follow along and make the improvements that suit your family or get ideas that will work for you.

  • I worked on eBay. While most people don’t have a big stash of stock to sell, I am sure you can declutter and sell off a few things that you no longer need.
  • I bought two items off eBay that I can sell for twice the price. Spending money right now seems counterintuitive but these items were really underpriced and I know we can make a profit from them in a short amount of time.
  • I contacted the bank that I have two property loans and my personal loan with and applied for financial hardship. I am hoping they will cancel any repayments due for the next 3 months. Of course interest will still accrue but this should give us time to pay off the overdue and over balance amounts and to get more income coming in.
  • I changed my husband’s personal loan payment from weekly to monthly. We were incurring a $5 fee every time the direct debit bounced. At least this way if it bounces it will only be once a month instead of 4 or 5 times. Yes, I know this is pathetic and desperate but that is our current situation. We are starting at rock bottom.
  • I applied for a delivery driver position at Dominos and Pizza Hut. I have done this before many years ago and I think it would suit me now as I would not be on my feet and I could work it at night without it being too tiring. It’s not the highest paying job though.
  • I recently let work know I would be willing to work at other stores or other departments to get more hours and I had a shift today at another store not too far away.
  • I applied for a few random jobs on seek.
  • My husband looked into cheaper postage options so we can make more profit on eBay.
  • I cooked dinner from ingredients we already had in the house. I only spent $1.65 on extra ingredients and there are leftovers for lunch tomorrow.
  • I read through a blog to get ideas to decrease expenses and increase income.
